US President Donald Trump said Wednesday that the war with Iran will end soon because there is practically nothing left to target.

"Some simple things... whenever I want to end it, it will end," Trump added during a five-minute call with Axios.

The website reported that Trump publicly indicated his operation had largely achieved its objectives, but US and Israeli officials confirmed that the president has not yet issued any internal directives regarding when to end the fighting.

"The war is going very well," Trump told Axios. "We are far ahead of schedule. We have inflicted more damage than we anticipated, even within the original six-week timeframe."

He explained, "They were eyeing the rest of the Middle East. They are paying the price for 47 years of death and destruction. This is the punishment. They will not get away with it so easily."

US Central Command announced Wednesday that it controls large swaths of Iranian airspace.

During his briefing, US Central Command chief Admiral Brad Cooper confirmed that US forces are using artificial intelligence in their strikes against Iran.

He added: “Our strikes on Iran are decisive and unpredictable. We continue to use overwhelming force against Iran.”

Central Command emphasized its focus on preventing Iran from disrupting navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

US Central Command asserted that the Iranian navy fleet is now out of the picture, adding: “We destroyed the last Iranian Soleimani-class vessel.”
