Yasser Abu Shabab Killed in Hamas Ambush in Rafah

Israeli media confirmed on Thursday, December 4, 2025, the death of Yasser Abu Shabab in an ambush by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in Rafah, Palestine.



Israeli Army Radio reported on Thursday that Yasser Abu Shabab was killed in Rafah, along with others, by Hamas fire, without providing further details.

Who was Yasser Abu Shabab?

Yasser Abu Shabab (born December 19, 1993) was a former Palestinian prisoner from the Tarabin tribe in Rafah. He was the leader of the "Popular Forces Mercenaries," an armed group opposed to Hamas in the Gaza Strip, which is supported by the Israeli occupation. Critics dubbed him "the Pablo Escobar of Gaza."

Yasser emerged as a prominent local opposition figure to Hamas during the ongoing war in Gaza.

The Israeli Occupation Supports Yasser Abu Shabab

In May 2025, his group began looting aid trucks, claiming that he was providing security for humanitarian aid convoys entering Gaza during Operation Gideon.

Israel began supplying Abu Shabab’s group with weapons and equipment in 2025. As of June 2025, reports indicated that it had taken control of eastern Rafah.
