State of Emergency Declared Nationwide; Maduro Condemns and Vows Retaliation
The home of Venezuelan Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino López was bombed this morning, Saturday, at the Tuina military base. His fate is unknown, according to Venezuelan media reports.
This comes as Venezuelan Foreign Minister Iván Gil announced that President Nicolás Maduro had declared a state of emergency in the country.
US Bombs Venezuela
Reuters reported that power was cut off in an area near a military base south of the capital, Caracas, with no immediate official comment from Venezuelan authorities.

The agency added that aircraft, loud noises, and at least one plume of smoke were heard and seen in Caracas in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Venezuela Declares State of Emergency
Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro declared a state of emergency across the country today, ordering the activation of national defense plans and the immediate deployment of the General Defense Command forces, following attacks targeting the capital, Caracas.
The Venezuelan government stated in an official statement that the decree aims to protect citizens' rights and guarantee the country's sovereignty. It confirmed the mobilization and deployment of the Bolivarian Armed Forces throughout the country, while reserving the right to self-defense, preserve independence, and achieve peace.
Trump Orders Strikes on Venezuela
US officials told CBS News, the BBC's US partner, that President Donald Trump ordered airstrikes on targets inside Venezuela, including military installations.

The officials added that Trump was aware of reports of explosions and aircraft flying over the Venezuelan capital, Caracas, early Saturday morning.
The Venezuelan presidency issued a statement saying: "Venezuela rejects, condemns, and denounces before the international community the extremely serious military aggression perpetrated by the current United States government against Venezuelan territory."
The statement added that the strikes in Caracas aimed to "seize Venezuela's strategic resources, particularly oil and minerals" and "forcibly break the country's political independence."
